A few nuggets quest. Winston gave me a quest to find some magic ore nuggets that some refugges had. I had found those and in the journal says it should be enough for Winston but when I want to talk to him I don't have any opption for the quest. I was in the same situation.
There is a starting list covered by a site when you google "The Chronicles of Myrtana Arkholos: The art of being a Magician". It mentions 2 of the 3 locations and a bunch of other rune locations. It is incomplete though. They don't update it. I found at least 2 copies of each circle 2 book in nature without buying them.

To fix the crashes you just need to disable the DEP for Gothic. Therefore just follow these steps: Press Windows + Pause, “Advanced System Settings”, press the upper button “Settings” below “Performance”, choose the tab “DEP” and add all EXE files from the Gothic 2 folder (3). After that the problem should be solved.
