My dad's X3 28d had originally passed the first recall, as it was low mileage, and then developed the leak later. We were refilling the coolant every 1-2 months. I had a bit of a fight with the BMW dealer, but they eventually re-did the check, and found it leaking. The dealer replaced the EGR cooler and intake manifold on the recall. Shop says something about the EGR cooler (valve broken) and SCR metering. Parts + Labor to repair is around $2k. Background: I've owned this car (2010 335d, 152k+ miles) for 5 years and over the past 2 years its cost me about $8k in repairs (excluding oil/tires/fluids/brakes). I'm on the fence of selling it, cutting my losses and getting a VW Nhtsa posted a voluntary recall by BMW on this series of diesel powered X3 for high pressure pump replacement (21v-586) in August 2021. Owners were to be notified by mail in September 2021. Still have not been notified and checking status shows no open recalls. If pump is failing, it would be sending metal into the injectors and fuel piping.
